Please note that this is only a rough guide based on various research studies that found significant improvements. These timings are limited by the evaluation periods used within the studies (often 12 week studies with evaluations every 4 weeks). Results may have been evident sooner if evaluation periods were earlier. Either way, patience is key!⁣

Protection > Correction Focusing on protecting yo Protection > Correction
Focusing on protecting your skin with sunscreen and antioxidants is more effective than trying to correct damage that’s already been done.
Skin damage from UV radiation accounts for 80-90% of all facial skin aging (wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, rough skin texture, etc).
It also increases your risk of skin cancer and worsens skin conditions like melasma and rosacea.
Many people think that they don’t need to wear sunscreen if it’s cloudy or if they are indoors all day (if there’s lots of natural light in the room/by windows). This is often due to the belief that sunburn and sun damage are one and the same, but this is not the case.
In fact, the damage from UVA radiation is often overlooked as it requires 1000 x the radiation levels of UVB to cause sunburn.
However, it is now known that UVA radiation is responsible for the majority of the skin damage associated with photoaging due to the fact that it is able to penetrate the dermis (UVB only penetrates the epidermis due to its shorter wavelength).
Another common misconception involves moisturizers and foundations with ‘added SPF’. Firstly, the amount of product typically applied would not reach the level of advertised SPF protection and, secondly, SPF only protects against UVB and not UVA.
For this reason, people often have a false sense of security and believe that they are protected from the harmful effects of UV radiation when using these products.
For optimal sun protection, choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen (both UVA & UVB protection) that is SPF30 or higher. There is not much added protection between SPF 30 and SPF 50 (97% vs 98% UVB blocked/absorbed), but higher SPF’s are often required to offer higher UVA protection due to the SPF/UVAPF ratios required by some sunscreen regulations (e.g. the EU).

Your skin is pretty good at exfoliating itself, as Your skin is pretty good at exfoliating itself, as long as it’s well hydrated.
Dead skin cells are held together with little bonds called corneodesmosomes.
In order for dead skin cells to be shed, these bonds need to be broken.
Chemical exfoliants, like AHAs weaken these bonds making it easier for them to be shed.
However, your skin contains little enzymes called proteases that digest these bonds for a living BUT they can only do this if your skin contains a sufficient amount of water.
Make sure your skin is well hydrated before you start adding exfoliants into your routine and don’t feel like your missing out if you haven’t jumped on the acids train.
A lot of people over-do it with the exfoliation, damaging their skin barrier, and reducing their skin’s water content. So not only is their skin now too irritated to tolerate acids, their skins natural exfoliation process is also messed up.
Exfoliating 1-3 x a week is more than enough and it’s better to not exfoliate at all than to over-exfoliate.
